After a 26-game hiatus due to a bone bruise in his left knee, Los Angeles Angels’ star Mike Trout made a notable return to the lineup, contributing to a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night. Trout, serving as the designated hitter, went 1-for-5, marking his first game action since April 30.
The three-time American League MVP had been sidelined with soreness in his left knee, which was eventually diagnosed as a bone bruise. This injury followed two operations on the same knee last year after a torn meniscus.
In his return, Trout batted fifth for the first time in his career, breaking a streak of 1,532 starts batting in the top four spots. He lined a base hit to left-center in the fourth inning and had a low line drive caught by Cleveland’s José Ramírez in his first at-bat. Despite striking out twice, Angels manager Ron Washington noted Trout’s solid contact and welcomed his return.
Trout’s presence helped the Angels snap a five-game losing streak, improving their record to 28-30. The team’s offense was bolstered by Jorge Soler’s home run and two RBIs, while Jo Adell matched his season high with three hits. Pitcher José Soriano delivered six scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and striking out two.
Trout’s return is a significant boost for the Angels, who have faced challenges due to injuries to key players, including reliever Robert Stephenson. The team aims to build momentum as they continue their series against the Guardians.
